Who We Are

Eight years ago, Lindsay’s high school friend became Mumu’s grad school friend; the two of them realized they had the appropriate level of dorkiness and snarkiness to become friends with each other, and the rest is history. This podcast is the result of days of harassing each other over instant message and talking about how there just weren’t very many female voices talking about science. (You try and name one!) We hope to open a window on all of the fascinating things that women are doing in STEM and beyond.

Lindsay Claiborn

I am a multimedia journalist with a background in television reporting. I’ve covered all sorts of things including earthquakes, oil spills, elections, sports and entertainment. When I’m not editing podcast audio, I spend my time as a Regional Video Editor for McClatchy, based at the Miami Herald, helping regional newspapers do better video. I previously worked as a digital producer at FOX Soccer and as a video journalist for Reuters Television. I went to Claremont McKenna College for undergrad and have a master’s in broadcast journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University. You can find me on Twitter @LindsayClaiborn and see some of my reporting work here.

Mumu Xu

I am an assistant professor in aerospace engineering at the University of Maryland. My research focuses on how to design, build, and control unmanned systems (aka robots and drones). I received my Ph.D. and M.S. in mechanical engineering from Caltech in 2013, and my B.S. from Harvard in 2007. Follow me on Twitter @themumuxu, or, for even more esoteric credentials, check out my work website.
