A visit to Mumu’s lab at the University of Maryland

drone, airplane, model, UAV

This past weekend I had the pleasure of sleeping on Mumu’s couch and eating her food while in town to go to a friend’s wedding.

Besides the obligatory podcast planning and conspiring, I got to follow Mumu to her office and lab and see what she really does on a daily basis (besides messaging with me).

So here are my observations as a non-academic looking in (with pictures):

1. Labs are really just glorified garages, with better lighting:
lab, engineering, models, aircraft, grad students

2. Engineering is an excuse to play with power tools and model airplanes:

3. All of the things in this a pile are what make these styrofoam aircrafts fly (we hope):

components, model, aircraft

4. Wait, this is work?

It was fun to put visuals to the world that Mumu has been describing to me the past year. Plus I got to scare some undergraduate students. A win-win, I think.
